Our Founder

“People ask all the time, how does a geologist end up at the helm of their own skincare company?”

Our company was founded in early 2017 as the solution to a major health crisis. After struggling for years with everything from cancer to multiple autoimmune diseases, our founder, Wendi Sudhakar, put on her scientist hat. She spent countless hours researching and found the answers that lead to her healing. Her research revealed that gluten and other unhealthy ingredients found in most beauty products was a major contributor.

From that, Kudarat was born.

Brand Manifesto

Kudarat is a company that believes that beauty is intimately linked to our health and wellness and that knowledge is power, we are leaders, not followers. ‘Nature Soul Spirit’, that’s our mantra – Kudarat is redefining what the very definition of beauty is, and chooses to celebrate beauty in all its glorious forms. We believe in nourishing our bodies with the good stuff, inside & out and that we are the ultimate arbitrators of our health / wellness. That what goes in our bodies and on our bodies makes a powerful difference in how a person will feel and perform every single day. We believe that nature has the answers. At Kudarat, we refuse to ever back down from our standards choosing to push boundaries to innovate and to educate. This is us. We are Kudarat. Let’s get back to nature and make a difference together.

Kudarat

(pronounced: Koo-dah-raht)

Kudarat is a Hindi word that literally means “Nature”. Every Kudarat product is made with powerful intention, with each beautiful plan-derived ingredient working together harmoniously. Kudarat is also, a reminder to connect or reconnect with nature, to stop and take a moment to smell the flowers.

Ingredients We Use

Kudarat begins with the most exceptional, beautiful plant-based ingredients that we can find. We personally vet every single ingredient, choosing certified organic when possible, and always gluten / grain-free, and cruelty free. All of our certified organic ingredients are indicated with an asterisk in the list of ingredients on each product page and our packaging. Our fragrances too are 100% natural and certified organic.

We are Leaping Bunny certified!

What We DON’T Use

It’s not just what we put in our products, but what we don’t. Here are some of the many ingredients that will never show up in ANY Kudarat product: Zero Gluten or Grain-Derived Ingredients, No Parabens, Phthalates, Sulfates, Petrochemicals, Ethoxylated Ingredients, Synthetic Fragrances, Microbeads or PEGs.

Why is Gluten Free Skincare so Important?

What the heck is Gluten anyway?

So, what is it?! It’s actually a family of nasty proteins found in all grains. NOT just wheat, barley and rye. I repeat, it’s in all grains. There are literally thousands of known gluten proteins. For real. That’s not a typo. Here’s the bad news—almost no research has been done on most of the members of this horrible family. The vast majority of the research has focused on the specific gluten protein that is found in wheat, barley, and rye. Most of that work is tied to celiac disease. This is definitely part of the problem and we’re here to dispel some of the misinformation that’s out there. After reading this, I really hope you’ll kick gluten to the curb.

Ingredient Spotlight: Beautiful Himalayan Pink Salt

Pomegranate (Punica granatum) is a beautiful superfood that has been used for thousands of years. It originated in the Persian Empire and is still primarily cultivated in the Mediterranean, India (which we of course love!), and the Middle East.

Ingredient Spotlight: Pomegranate “The Paradise Fruit”

Ingredient Spotlight: Rosemary “Dew of the Sea”

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is a beautiful woody herb with fragrant evergreen needle-like leaves and flowers that bloom in pink, white, purple, or blue. Originally native to the Mediterranean Sea and Portugal, it does love humid areas, but it’s also very drought tolerant, making it easy to grow just about anywhere. “Rosmarius” means “dew of the sea”.

The Ingredients We Don’t Use In Our Products and Why

When you take a look at our labels and our website, besides seeing a full listing of every single ingredient that is found in our products, you will also see a listing of what you won’t find in our products. We are exposed to so many toxins in our every day lives. I’m living proof of how prolonged exposure and overload can make us seriously sick. We’ve done a ton of research on the science about the effects of the ingredients that we don’t use on humans as well as plants, animals, and our world. We’ve also discovered along the way that the average person has over 200 synthetic chemicals stored in their bodies—imagine what happens long term—we’re like toxic storage dumps.

We Are Now Leaping Bunny Certified

NOW LEAPING BUNNY CERTIFIED!     Hurray! Kudarat is now certified by the Leaping Bunny Program! Kudarat has always been and always will be, both cruelty-free and vegan. Testing ingredients or finished products on animals is something Kudarat does not...

We’re Having an AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) Moment!

Did you know that fruit extracts are an amazing source of Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) along with enzymes and antioxidants? We all know that “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” but fruits also benefit our skin in a major way when applied topically.

AHAs have been around for a long time—even Cleopatra, known for her legendary beauty, supposedly used them. The story goes that she bathed in sour milk (a source of lactic acid) to keep herself looking fresh and young. In this day and age, AHAs are found in a lot of skincare products, including ours. So, what are they?

Cozy Self Care During The Winter Season

Just that 2 word little phrase, “self-care” can trigger many of us. I’m just going to jump right out and say it. Self-care is not selfish. In fact, it’s a requirement. ALWAYS, and I mean always, take time for yourself, especially during the holidays when things can get nuts!

I like to use the analogy of the instructions your flight attendant gives you during the pre-flight safety demo. You are told to put your oxygen mask on FIRST before assisting other passengers. This is a great example of how necessary self-care is. Otherwise, you will be of use to no one, including yourself.

Here are some cozy self-care rituals to try during the chilly winter months:
